Emmaline Merrill is a coalitions support specialist at the Virginia Institute for Public Policy, an independent, nonpartisan, education and research organization that develops and promotes public policy consistent with the Virginia tradition of individual liberty, dynamic entrepreneurial capitalism, private property, the rule of law, and constitutionally-limited government.

A recent graduate of Southern Virginia University (SVU), Emmaline holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Originating from just outside of Richmond, Virginia, her passion for politics ignited when she connected with one of her representatives, receiving a response that fueled her interest in active civic engagement. Emmaline is a staunch advocate for exercising the freedoms of our Republic and enthusiastically participates in the political process.

Emmaline’s educational journey has included an exemplary academic record, achieving Summa Cum Laude honors during her time at Brightpoint Community College, where she earned an Associate of Sciences in 2022. At Southern Virginia University, she has focused her studies on Political Science with a concentration in International Affairs, showcasing her commitment to understanding global political dynamics.

In January 2024, Emmaline took a significant step in her career by embarking on a policy internship with the Virginia Institute for Public Policy. This hands-on experience aligns with her academic pursuits, providing her with practical insights into the realm of public policy and governance.

Beyond her career and academic pursuits, Emmaline leads a multifaceted life filled with diverse hobbies. Not only does she play the cello in SVU’s orchestra, showcasing her musical talent, but she also expresses her artistic side through painting. Emmaline’s dedication to community involvement is evident through her active participation in student government and honor organizations. Recently, she has embraced the discipline of Karate, reflecting her commitment to personal growth and physical well-being. For those passing through Richmond, Emmaline extends an invitation to visit her family’s farm, Shoofly, and enjoy the company of its lively array of animals.
